Coca-Cola has joined DEMETO, an industry consultancy, a European PET chemical recycling project. DEMETO aims to develop an industrial-scale chemical depolymerization process based on microwave for PET.
The technology, developed by a Swiss company, effectively enhances the depolymerization (hydrolysis) of plastics, using microwave radiation as a high energy catalyst. This technology reduces reaction time, simplifies the complexity of PTA purification process, and USES continuous process to improve productivity, replacing the typical batch processing process at present development level.
The process takes PET waste plastics as the input, and the output generated includes the original construction EG and PTA of such plastics. Unlike mechanical recycling, DEMETO can completely recycle PET without degradation.
Earlier this year, the Coca-Cola company in Atlanta, USA has announced a "World Without Waste ," the global sustainable packaging strategy, goal in 2030 all beverage packaging 100% amount of recycling.
Specifically, coke put forward two main indexes: one is to 2030, the Coca-Cola company use each packing, will try to recycle a similar packaging, to make it get recycling; Second, by 2030, Coca-Cola plans to use an average of 50% of the recycled materials in packaging materials, hoping to set a new global benchmark for beverage packaging.
Coca-Cola has said, in order to achieve this goal, will be packed and its bottling partners in research and development innovation and protection of continued to put into the earth's environment, at the same time of produce better beverage bottle, with the local community, business partners, customers and consumers together, solve the problem of waste packaging discarded and sea together.
